Connect & Succeed!

I have spent the last 30+ years working with organizations to improve team work and team leadership. My graduate degree is in Community Psychology and I have a keen interest in using my studies in my work - hence my interest in this network. I am also interested in the behavioral aspects of trust and how current brain research can inform that study and be applied in the workplace.

A primary tool in my work and current study is the DiSC Model of Behavior. I believe that understanding this model, and applying it in work and personal settings, can enhance relationships as well as productivity. Another tool that has had a major impact on my life and my work is a program called Adventures in Attitudes which was created by Bob Conklin in 1957. I am working on a blog which is designed to help alumni of the program re-live and continue to apply the lessons learned there.

At the beginning of the Iraq war I was led, by a matter of conscience, to leave the military and begin a journey into the world of peace and justice activism. I co-founded an organization called Every Church A Peace Church whose mission was to challenge the Christian community to go back to their roots as a peace church and to take a stand against militarism. Currently I am working with another group called 1040 For Peace which challenges the drafting of our tax dollars to military service. I look forward to learning how SPN is using science in the cause of peace and justice.

Psychology Mentors, Inspirations, and Influences

  • Robert Conklin
    Personal Dynamics, Inc
Bob created the Adventures in Attitudes program in 1957. I was a participant in the program in 1984 and it became the basis for starting The TEAM Approach in 1986. I was privileged to be on the 50th Anniversary task force to republish the program in its original form.
  • Walter Wink
Walter Wink wrote Engaging The Powers in 1992. This book, and others by Wink, became the beginning of my journey into the world of peace and justice activism. Through his work, I found an entirely new way to look at the Bible and Jesus as well as delve into the psychology of early Christians.
