Mr. Akshay Ragupathy
Hello there.
I'm a college student in the University of Delhi, at the moment, where I study at the Faculty of Law - I'm another two years away from completing my LLB degree, after which I'd like to enter postgraduate studies in sociology. Prior to this, I studied biology at the same university. All of these fields appealed (and continue to do so) because of the basic questions each of them ask regarding humanity, the basic behavior of its constituents (i.e., humans) and how that relates to the world as we know it. It's fascinating how this vast multitude of people seem to be able to look at the same world and arrive at such diverging conceptions of it, and how such radically different people seem to find things that they can share and find common across time, space and culture. This is the explanation to how I found myself on this site - through Coursera and it's Professor Plous' course, which I was led to by a short google search and a (hopefully) healthy dose of curiosity.
To me, the questions of humanity and people seem terribly important - if the the past century has taught us anything, it's that no amount of technological innovation will be the panacea human ills in systems that restrict access to the same or use these for the purpose of conflict; and even the idea of research can be optimized by a greater understanding of what makes us tick. This is humanity, everything else seems painfully subsidiary. In this view, I find the question of politics fascinating - very few things are more depressing than a lack of civic engagement and an advancing wave of apathy.
