"The slow blade penetrates the shield."

Hey!

My name is Phoenix, but I go by Caisen. Since I was younger I have found myself interested in the psychological processes that make us human--and in how some people can behave and think so differently from me as a result.

I have had many amazing experiences living in Japan attending university here, but perhaps nothing has been more gratifying and fascinating from a psychological perspective than the experience of adapting to a new culture and seeing yourself change under the influences surrounding you. In the future, I would like to expose myself to even more cultures and experiences that might challenge my worldviews and leave me susceptible to taking a new perspective!

Psychology Mentors, Inspirations, and Influences

  • Haruki Murakami
A very famous Japanese author I greatly admire, who lived and participated the dorm I will be moving to in the Fall. Themes of his literature include complex narratives and surrealism that blurs the line between reality and faction.
  • Slavoj Zizek
    University of London
Contemporary philosopher with interesting ideas on socialism and capitalism from a (partially) psychological perspective
  • Keita Kikuchi
    Waseda University
The teacher of the positive psychology class I took last year--an amazing man with lofty goals and big ideas.
