Angharad Parkes

I am a classical musician, a cellist and have lived in the UK, USA, Canada and currently live and work in the Cayman Islands. I am an instrumental teacher and occasionally lecture in music history at The University College of The Cayman Islands.

Music is central to my life, and I'm fascinated by the ways that music shapes social change and creates opportunities especially for children. My teaching has opened up a whole new world of challenges for me and driven my interest in psychology and how we interact with each other and how I can improve my teaching by better understanding and relating to my students. My first interest in psychology however comes from trying to make sense of the world around me on a daily basis, being able to look at my interactions and relationships and understand them better. I am currently taking the social psychology course on Coursera and hope that it will further broaden my understanding of how we all work!

When I'm not eating and sleeping music I love being in, on or next to the ocean, with my dog, kitesurfing or just reading a book on the sand it's one of the truly great things of living in the Caribbean!
