From acting into neuroscience; such an obvious —and rewarding— choice.

It now seems obvious to me that my problems with communication as a child would make me go into broadcasting, journalism, acting, singing, cinema directing, cognitive neuroscience, psychobiology and social psychology.

That path may not appear that obvious —which is great because I love explaining the connections— and although the isolated child remains in me, I'm convinced that self knowledge through arts and science will greatly reward us as individuals and as a social group. I'm looking forward to follow that path through future exchanges and collaborations with people with similar convictions; particularly with those kindred spirits from Coursera's Social Psychology.

I'm a Communication Specialist, M.S. in Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychobiology, B.A. in Broadcasting and Journalism. Acting and cinema were the trampoline for my jump into neuroscience.

I'm commonly known as José Erre and, if interested, a Google search (for José Erre) will tell you more about my career in the media.

Psychology Mentors, Inspirations, and Influences

  • Sebastian Seung
    Seung Lab, M.I.T.
Sebastian Seung and his lab are carrying out leading research of brain structure through the EyeWire project (EyeWire.org) and I'm proud to have been able to give them a hand at the beginning of the project and serving as Sebastian's translator during his lectures and press events in Madrid in 2012
  • Constantin Stanislavsky
Stanislavsky is the father of modern acting (not pretending, being) and, even though this might be a strange place to mention him, his vision and work were key factors for the bridge that took me from the arts into neuroscience.
  • Daniel Siegel
    MindSight Institute
I follow the work of Dan Siegel since reading his book MindSIght which is hands down the best application —almost the only one— of real neuroscience in psychology therapy.
  • Ignacio Morgado
    Autonomus University of Barcelona
Head of the Master's in Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychobiology. Dr. Morgado was a key factor for my bridge from acting and cinema into neurocience since he was open enough to allow a student from the arts to enroll in this Master's course.
