Ms Elaine Choong
Where there's a will, there's a way.
I am an Editor specializing in games, comics and animations for one of the best-selling hobby magazine in Malaysia. Despite negative perceptions held by local community about creative industry at large, I decided to pursue a career out of my passion for art. My involvement with local fanbase of games, comics and animations, and upon learning of various objections and difficulties faced by fellow art enthusiasts helped solidify my passion and encouraged me to join the committee of Comic Fiesta, a yearly convention focusing on promoting art and other creative subcultures organized by fans for fans. During the 8 years spend in organizing Comic Fiesta, it opened my eyes to the reality of our creative industry and through growing experience, I’m convinced that without concentrated effort, art and creativity will not soar in our young nation. It delights me that my career not only allows me to express myself but it has also given me the chance and premise to be proactive in promoting and pushing for improvements from within the scene. It's a long and difficult road that I've threaded for the past 7 years, and I will continue down the road knowing that our efforts will pay off.
Currently I am enrolled in Coursera's Social Psychology course with Professor Scott Plous. My interest in Psychology begin during high school under the tutelage of my school's Counselor and through her guidance, I was able to understand myself a little better. However, what I learned is all but a minuscule aspect of the subject. Financial restrain prevented me from pursuing Psychology for my tertiary education but my interest on the subject remain strong, especially in recent years as I advance my career ladder. By enrolling myself in the course, I'm hoping to broaden my knowledge and use what I learn to improve my understanding and relationship with people around me.
When I'm not busy with work and study, I indulge in marathon in hope of keeping myself healthy.
