Deborah Williamson
I am not totally retired--just "re-engaging."
I am a former Healthcare Consultant/Administrator with decades of experience in public and private health sectors. I began this career as a single parent with two daughters (now adults living their own lives). This specific situation gave me awareness of inequitable gender issues in my personal and professional life, and in my daughters' futures. I navigated among gender issues while developing tools to influence positive changes. I also worked several years with an urban, minority-owned healthcare organization, and learned first-hand about racial inequities from friends and colleagues there. I liked the challenge of consulting by earning trust and collaborating with clients and stakeholders to achieve results. I gained so much from people and projects in different geographic areas of our country. I enjoyed my successes, and learned from my failures!
Now in retirement, I volunteer in areas of social justice and equity, as I continue to learn from others. I want to contribute in these "re-engaging" years in small ways to a more equitable world. I continue to be pleasantly surprised as ideas and opportunities present to me. These retirement years also have given me more time to travel, to hike, to read, to think, and to spend time with friends and family.
