A ship in the harbor is safe, but that's not what ships are built for
Hello, thank you for visiting my PSN member page!My name is Sue, and I am an enthusiastic new member of this dynamic community, excited to find out what fascinating new doors this will open.
I am an intellectually curious individual with diverse interests. My studies have been in business administration and my current job is in Supply Chain, but my very first career was actually as professional volleyball player (it remains one of my favorite hobbies). I have always been a reader of all kinds of book genres, and in my youth I studied acting for several years, which made of me a lover of all performing arts. Recently, I have expanded my interests in a variety of directions: learning the art of sewing, earning my PADI (scuba diving) certification, joining the Couch Surfing community, participating in 62 floor stair-climb fundraisers for the Epilepsy foundation, one mud race, one cheese-making workshop, dancing Argentinian tango, exploring the world of glass blowing, joining Chicago Care volunteering opportunities, and playing tennis ...among others :)
My passion for Social Psychology is as recent as few weeks ago, but since always I've been captivated by the interactions of people. With the intent of understanding other cultures, I have consistently dedicated a large amount of my time studying languages. In addition, life has brought me around the globe. After high-school I left Italy to study in the US, where I lived in many places such as Columbus OH, Miami FL, Chicago IL, and the San Francisco bay area, for a total of 11 years. In between, I worked for over a year in the UK, and since 2012 I moved back to Europe, to the small but beautiful Netherlands.
Today I speak fluently 4 languages, and I have spent a few years getting acquainted with some more (for me) unusual ones, such as Arabic, Chinese, German, and Dutch. I can't have a conversation in these languages, but studying their basis gave me the opportunity to learn about different societies, ways of thinking and viewing the world.
And this is how I came about SPN: because of my interest in languages, I wanted to explore the field of Linguistics. I joined Coursera to try out one of their Linguistics classes, and eventually I ran into professor Plous's Social Psychology course. And I got hooked!
I am a big fan of the Social Psychology Network mission to promote peace, social justice, and sustainable living through public education, research, and the advancement of psychology. I strongly believe that public education is key for better living and hope to find ways to contribute to this excellent cause and give back to this community we share.
