Dezarae Behm
Hello, my name is Dezarae, born and raised in Washington State, I am now a 24 year old mother, homemaker, and student.
I will cut straight to the chase; I've been through a lot, all different kinds of trauma throughout my life, and since stepping into adulthood I have been focused on "what can I learn from this?". I have learned a great deal from life based on self-motivated research on PTSD, CPTSD, MDD, even BWS; I really learned a lot on my own, focusing on healing from trauma, in particular.
Dispite the negative occurences I have experienced I would love to bring some of the skills and knowledge that I have gained during those times to help others overcome their own struggles in life, and suggest some skills to cope and help alleviate the symptoms of trauma related mental illnesses.
I am very interested in incorporating positive psychology into my own life and profession, and sharing that positivity with other people as well. Positive psychology is so powerful it can improve the quality of our lives and impacts others around us in a significant way. The affects of negative or positive thinking affects us in immensable ways, affecting our emotions and even our brain chemistry. The power of positivity can help us by enhancing our creativity skills, we are able to focus better, it also promotes mental productivity. The list of benefits from thinking positively goes on and on, it is extremely powerful.
It is very important that we manage our emotions, because we know that our emotions affect the way we think, which directly influences how we behave. This is a very very important thing to note as we continue our own individual journey's, being mindful of how a positive attitude affects our own life and how it affects others around us.
I really hope that someday I will be able to help others through their own journey of life, through their own struggles, from a professional standpoint any route that may be. Giving someone an ear to listen, where I can help them process their thoughts and emotions, and/or helping people grasp onto their goals and break down each goal so I can help guide them there one step at a time, even if that means taking a step back and breaking the goals into smaller steps will help positive changes seem more attainable to each individual.
I am also very very interested in studying habits, good and bad habits, how this alone can change how we live our lives, by regognizing our bad habits and incorporating good changes in place of them. An example of this would be, instead of waking up and start scrolling your phone first thing in the morning, wake up and drink a glass of water first thing in the morning instead. This is just a generalized example, that almost anyone can do. The main idea is to be applied to any individual's habits. The focus is changing our habits and our life, for good, one step at a time, and maintaining the good habits you develop.
My adulthood consists of a background of enthusiastic customer service; I was a cheerful sandwich artist. I really loved my job, not just because of the sandwiches, but because of the interaction with people. I always asked my customers "How are you doing today?" , the empthy and compassion I have for others peaked my curiousity on how I can leave others in a better mood than when they came in. I find myself pondering the thought of how many people I may have promoted a positive difference in their day. I had many customers come in, just because they knew I would be working that day. Many of my customers were regulars, and it is hard to tell whether they were regulars because of the quality sandwich I was making for them, or if it was because I left them with a positive experience. I find myself pondering this and wondering if I left a lasting impression on the poeple that came into my store and if I have impacted their life. This is when I had an ephiphany that I enjoyed helping others more than I enjoyed making their food. The frequent interactions with many customers made me realize that I have a lot more to give to the community.
In conclusion, I have drawn a unique interest to recognizing and understanding trauma based emotions and how to overcome any situation that we may be faced with. It is also important to have the ability to recognize our habits and change them as needed, which can be hard for some people, however it can be a life changing experience, and when done correctly it can involve long term habit changes that will improve lives. I also love the idea of helping others lead their own path to success by helping them by helping them attain their own personalize goals.
I am SO excited to see where my professional journey in psychology will lead me, and how I will help others in the future.
