Hi,
My name is Ljiljana Alic. I am born in Berilovac,Serbia 61 years ago. I have two sisters and brother that reside in Serbia which i use to visit every other year.
Currently, I am citizen of USA. To became a citizen I had to travel the long road. My husband, our two children and me escaped war in Bosnia more than twenty years ago. Our destination was Sweden but due to lack of documents, we ended up in Poland. After several months we moved to Germany as refuges. Luckily we found jobs there and our children attended school. We worked hard there and stayed five years but Governments decided to send us back to Bosnia(where my husband is from.) Due to instability after Bosnian-Serbian war we decided to look for another country who will accept us. Thankfully we found god Samaritans from USA who helped us to move here.
First few years were tough because our family experienced cultural shock. It was as we moved to another planet. I use to say : 'No wonder that everything is different - It is other side of the World.'
Despite language barriers and every day obstacles, I decided to enroll in college. Surprisingly I passed entrance exam easily. I was very proud of my self for starting Physical therapy course. But my English
wasn't good at that time and I didn't have a reliable transportation so I gave up which I regret to todays day. Today I am proud to say that I am working as Interpreter ,my English improved greatly. T
There is saying that :'Newer is to late' so after retiring from post office I am wiling to learn and study, improve myself in my sixties.
I am thankful that I found course of Social psychology which is very interesting to me because I always wanted to learn why people in general and members of my family and extended family behave the way they do.
Looking forward to study many topics and courses and very glad that we have good Community and great professors and thankful that everything is available online.
