Assistant or Associate Professor of Social Psychology

You will work at the Department of Social and Organizational Psychology at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Utrecht University is a leading international research university. In the prestigious Shanghai ranking of the world’s top universities, Utrecht University was rated the 40th best university in the world and the 6th best in Europe. Utrecht is a lovely, sparkling city, the 4th largest city of the Netherlands, with a population over 250 000, 30 minutes by train from Amsterdam Airport, with good housing and other facilities.

The Department of Social and Organizational Psychology includes 35 faculty members, and is organized around two permanent chairs, one in Social Psychology (Prof. dr. Kees van den Bos) and the other in Work and Organizational Psychology (Prof. Dr. Wilmar Schaufeli). The department participates in Psychology teaching programs at the BA level, Academic MA level, and Research MA level. Teaching mainly includes topics pertaining to social psychology as well as applications of social psychology in the context of work and organizational psychology.

Job description:
Your research will take place within the program 'Social-cognitive and interpersonal determinants of behavior' of the Social Psychology chairs of Prof. Dr. Kees van den Bos and Prof. Dr. Henk Aarts. For your research you will participate in the Linschoten Institute (Psychology Research Institute at Utrecht University) and the Kurt Lewin Institute (KLI, the Dutch research school for social psychology and its applications).

We are looking for someone who (1) is a motivated and competent researcher in the area of social cognition and interpersonal processes (broadly defined), and (2) enthusiastically and competently will teach basic and applied courses in social psychology, including supervision of research projects in both Bachelor and Master phases of the Social and Work and Organizational Psychology programs at Utrecht University.

Your tasks will be:
* Independent organization and coordination of courses in the teaching program of the Department of Social and Organizational Psychology, including teaching at both introductory and advanced levels and supervision of various research projects in the BA and MA phases.
* Conducting, obtaining, and supervising of research projects pertaining to social psychology and its applications, especially related to the research theme of the social psychology program (social cognition and interpersonal processes).
* Working closely together with colleagues from the department and the Psychology teaching program.
* Daily supervision of PhD students.
* Submitting research grants.
* Management tasks, especially tasks pertaining to development of new courses.

In principle, 60% of your time will involve teaching and 40% will involve research.

Qualifications:
* Being educated as a (preferably experimental) social psychologist, completed with a PhD relevant for the theme of 'Social-cognitive and interpersonal determinants of behavior'.
* Ample experience with high quality scientific research.
* Scientific creativity and productivity reflected in high-impact international publications.
* Knowledge of basic and applied social psychology.
* Interest in supervision of both basic and applied research in societal and organizational contexts.
* Ample experience in independently teaching of academic courses.
* Experience with obtaining external grants would be appreciated.
* Now or soon you should qualify as a full member for the KLI. A permanent position will only be given when you have qualified as a full member for the KLI. In addition, you will have to obtain the appropriate research and teaching qualifications at Utrecht University laid out in the 'functiestructuur FLOW (Utrechtse Regeling Functies Loopbanen en Waardering)'.
* Within two years you will have to be able to teach your courses in Dutch.

Terms of employment:
We offer a temporary 1.0 fte position of a maximum of two years which (following positive research and teaching evaluations) can be extended into a permanent, tenured position. For an assistant professor, we offer a salary of 3060 Euros to 4761 Euros gross per month when full-time employed (scales 11-12 Collective Agreement of Dutch Universities). For an associate professor, we offer a salary of 4242 Euros to 5670 Euros gross per month when full-time employed (scales 13-14 Collective Agreement of Dutch Universities).
