This article represents a field in psychology that has a lot to contribute to understanding social/political phenomena like war, genocide, terrorism, and torture:

http://www.apa.org/science/psa/slovic.html

Although it was understandable because of the short time frame available, I was very disappointed when we were not able to find workers from these subfields to participate in the APA Task Force on the Psychological Effects of Efforts to Prevent Terrorism.

As a social/political psychologist, I am gratified to see such an informative well written article by such a prominent psychologist.
