Job at University of Essex, UK

The position below is "open area," but we'd really like to see qualified applicants in the area of social psychology.

One of our Faculty members, Philip Cozzolino, will be present at the forthcoming SPSP conference; feel free to contact him there for any informal inquiries.

Best wishes,
Nicolas Geeraert

=============================================
UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX
LECTURER IN PSYCHOLOGY (OPEN AREA)
Department of Psychology
=============================================

The Department of Psychology at the University of Essex was founded in 1991 and has now expanded to 25 full-time academic staff responsible for the teaching of approximately 400 undergraduates and over 40 postgraduate students. The Department has rapidly gained a reputation for excellence in research and was ranked highly (5A) in the last national Research Assessment Exercise. It is currently recognised by the ESRC for the provision of ‘1 + 3’ research training, and the standard of learning and teaching on Psychology courses at Essex was described by the last TQA as ‘excellent’.

It is anticipated that the new appointment will have research and teaching interests in any area of Psychology currently represented in the Department. The Department is seeking applicants with very strong research potential and publication record. We are looking to make one full time permanent appointment, on the scale £33,779-£40,335 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.

The campus is located in Colchester, which is Britain’s oldest recorded town and is only 40 minutes train ride away from London city center. Colchester is within an hour’s travel of Stansted airport, which links the city to the rest of the world via low-priced flights. Both the faculty and the student body are culturally diverse; the department of psychology hosts faculty members of 8 different national backgrounds. 39% of the undergraduate students come from countries other than the UK with 25% originating from outside of the EU.

Informal enquiries from applicants in the social area can be made to any member of the Social and Health Psychology Research Group, in particular Professor Sheina Orbell (sorbell@essex.ac.uk), Dr. Philip Cozzolino (pjcozz@essex.ac.uk), Dr. Nicolas Geeraert (geeraert@essex.ac.uk), Dr. Tim Rakow (timrakow@essex.ac.uk), and Dr. Ayse Uskul (auskul@essex.ac.uk).
