The Department of Educational Psychology, University of Minnesota, College of Education and Human Development invites nominations and applications for a faculty member (rank to be determined at the time of hire) in Educational Psychology, with a specialization in cognition and research design and an interest in school-based research. Applicants will be considered for appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank, depending on qualifications. Position Responsibilities:
Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Research: This position will develop and maintain a strong record of scholarship pertinent to educational issues, with a focus on experimental design and cognitive aspects of learning and instruction. A commitment to securing external funds to support his or her scholarly inquiry is also expected.
Teaching: This position will provide graduate-level instruction in educational psychology and in related areas relevant to his or her area of expertise and advise graduate students while making strong contributions to the ongoing activities of the graduate program, the department, the college, and the University.

Service: This position will work with the training program directors to conceptualize curriculum, to recruit and select trainees, and to direct research at field sites. This position will also participate in college, University, and community service or other outreach activities, such as service on internal committees or task forces and/or making presentations to external constituencies, and participate in the activities of relevant professional organizations.

As part of teaching and service, this position will assist in coordinating the newly established predoctoral training program in the Education Sciences at the University of Minnesota. This training program, funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, has two themes: experimental research methodology and cognitive sciences as applied to educational issues.

Essential qualifications: An earned doctorate in educational psychology, psychology, or a related field. Applications from ABD candidates will be considered provided the individual can document that he or she is on track to complete the doctorate by 8/29/2007. Evidence of research potential or productivity in the form of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Research background and experience in the education sciences, particularly focusing on cognition or neuroscience, and research design, and their application to the investigation of educationally relevant issues. These issues may include reading, problem-solving, higher-order thinking, mathematics learning, instructional design, memory, neurological substrates of learning, and/or cognitive development.

Preferred qualifications: Teaching experience at the graduate level in cognition, statistics, or research design as applied to educationally relevant issues. Evidence of potential for securing research funding.

Appointment details: The individual hired will be appointed into a full-time, 9-month position as a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor or a tenured Associate or Full professor, dependent upon qualifications. The likely starting date for this appointment is August 29, 2007, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
