Hello Colleagues,

If you have an excellent undergrad in your lab who is looking for two years of research experience prior to attending graduate school, I would appreciate it if you would bring the following job to their attention.

I am seeking a full-time Lab Manager for my Intergroup Relations and Psychophysiology Laboratory at the University of California at Santa Barbara. This person will assist with designing and conducting complex laboratory-based experimental studies on emotional, cardiovascular and hormonal effects of experiecing prejudice.

Duties will include recruiting study participants, recruiting, training, and scheduling research assistants, preparing IRB protocols and study materials, collecting, scoring and analyzing physiological data, maintaining a laboratory website, maintaining a web-based participant data base, purchasing laboratory materials and supplies, offering administrative support, ordering and maintaining lab supplies, assisting with lab coordination, and related research duties. Technology savvy candidates and candidates with a biological background should mention those skills in their application.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in psychology and at least one year of experience with running experiments and testing human participants in a psychology laboratory. Excellent technical, numerical, and writing skills a must. Must have sufficient computer literacy to easily pick up specialized computer implementations of experiments plus competency to learn web-survey creation and data management. Must have excellent organizational skills and enjoy the challenges of a demanding work load involving simultaneous engagement in multiple research projects and with multiple research assistants. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively and interface between the PI and her collaborators within the department, university, and outside. Must have the ability to take initiative and to function independently and as a member of a team. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have good interpersonal skills.

Desired but not essential qualifiations include knowledge of SPSS, Excel and web-design. Strong computer skills. Background in biopsychology and/or psychophysiology.
I am looking for someone willing to start this summer and make at least a 2 year committment, although funding is available for longer.
