Posted by: Dr. Richard Moreland
Title/Position: Professor of Psychology
School/Organization: University of Pittsburgh
Sent to listserv of: SPSP, SESP
Date posted: January 19th, 2006

Each year, Division 49 (Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy) of the American Psychological Association sponsors a prize for the best dissertation research on small groups. Anyone who completed a dissertation during 2005 is eligible for the competition. Dissertations may examine any type of group, use any methodology, and analyze any phenomenon. Applicants should mail a brief typed summary (five pages, double-spaced) of their dissertations to Dr. Richard Moreland (3103 Sennott Square, Department of Psychology, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260) by January 31st of 2006. A committee will review these summaries and select three finalists, who must then submit complete copies of their dissertatins for further review. The winner, who receives $500, a plaque, and a three-year free membership in the division, is announced at the APA Convention in August.

Past winners of the prize include Drs. Karen Jehn, Deborah Gruenfeld, Amy Edmondson, and Kyle Lewis.
