The Department of Psychology at Kent State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in affective neuroscience. The successful candidate will be involved in the investigation of the genetic and behavioral predictors of psychological risk. Specifically, this research program aims to examine the association between polymorphisms, their resultant alterations in brain function and emotional response behavior in humans and rodents to build a more comprehensive model of the genetic influence on psychiatric risk and identify new avenues for treatment. This position is primarily mentored by Karin Coifman Ph.D. (Affective Science/Clinical Psychology) and Aaron Jasnow, Ph.D. (Behavioral/Molecular Neuroscience) with additional mentoring and collaboration opportunities with other faculty from a variety of disciplines. This position offers the opportunity to develop an integrated research program and enhance skills necessary for a successful academic/research career. This position is internally funded for up to two years. However, renewal of appointments will be dependent upon performance. Salary is consistent with current NIH postdoctoral training levels and includes health insurance and a stipend for professional travel.

Postdoc Description
Postdoctoral applicants must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline such as psychology or neuroscience, and have demonstrated research productivity and academic excellence in basic emotion research and/or affective neuroscience related to psychopathology. We are seeking an applicant with previous research experience with human subjects that is interested in a multidisciplinary approach to the study of genetic and behavioral risk for affective disorders. There will be no opportunities for using neuroimaging methodology during the training period. Applicants with a PhD in Clinical Psychology are welcome and opportunities for gaining clinical hours with supervision will be made available.
