Rony Berger and Phil Zimbardo have just published a paper describing a project applying basic social psychology to create positive change in groups of political extremists and ex-gang members. I think it is a powerful piece. The work grew out of the Heroic Imagination Project.
If you're not familiar with HIP, it is an attempt to apply what our discipline has to day about the power of the situation to bring out the best in people rather than the worst.
