Full-Time Lab Manager Position at Northwestern
Posted by: Shanette Porter
Title/Position: Postdoctoral Researcher
School/Organization: Northwestern University
Sent to listserv of: SPSP, SPSSI
Date posted: April 30th, 2012

***Lab Manager Position at Northwestern's Social Perception and Communication Laboratory (Department of Psychology and Institute for Policy Research)***

Jennifer Richeson's Social Perception and Communication Lab at Northwestern University is hiring a full-time Lab Manager, preferably for a two-year commitment. The start date is September 2012 (although mid-August is also possible if preferred).

The Lab Manager will work closely with Dr. Jennifer Richeson and her PhD students to coordinate and conduct research studies related to intergroup relations and racial diversity (e.g., stigma, prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination). For more information about our research, please visit our web site:

http://groups.psych.northwestern.edu/spcl/

The Lab Manager will oversee the day-to-day research being conducted in the lab, such as scheduling and supervising the running of studies, maintaining laboratory computers and equipment, maintaining the lab website, interviewing and supervising undergraduate research assistants, managing grants & irb protocols, preparing stimuli, programming experimental tasks, planning and organizing research meetings and processing and analyzing data.

This position is perfect for someone with a BA or MA in psychology who has moderate to extensive research experience but who is looking for more time (2 years) to deeply engage in research before applying to graduate school in psychology.

Qualifications: We are looking for someone with a strong background in psychology and psychological research. Previous experience conducting research in social psychology and the completion of an honors thesis or independent project in psychology is ideal. Similarly, strong interest in the topic of intergroup relations and/or group diversity is required. In addition, we are looking for a candidate who is conscientious, self-motivated, highly organized, and relatively easy-going. Experience with Media Lab, Direct RT, SPSS or SAS, Excel, IRB processes, running experiments of all kinds in the lab and field is preferred but not required. Excellent social and communication skills, however, are required given that managing other people (e.g., research participants, undergraduate RAs, PhD students, administrative staff at NU) is the hallmark of this position. Some flexibility of schedule is also required, given the ebb and flow of the academic quarter (and student schedules).

We will review applications until the position is filled. To apply, first go to JOB ID#:19065 through the Northwestern University employment website:http://www.northwestern.edu/hr/careers/. In addition, please ALSO send the following application materials to Shanette Porter (s-porter@northwestern.edu) via email. [write "lab manager position" in the subject line]. Applicants should (1) submit a resume/CV, (2) submit a 1-page cover letter describing their qualifications for, relevant experience, and research interests, along with the names of 2 references, and (3) have 1 letter of recommendation emailed to Shanette.

Applications will be reviewed on a first-come-first-serve basis, beginning April 27, 2012. The research team is hiring for an 8/15/12 or 9/1/12 start date.

Northwestern is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
