CALL FOR PAPERS
Seventh Annual INGRoup Conference
July 12-14, 2012
Doubletree Hotel Chicago - Magnificent Mile

Submissions must be received by Tuesday, January 31, 2012 (10 p.m. EST).
The study of groups and teams is as important now as it has ever been. Societies are dependent on the formation and utilization of groups, making groups relevant to countless aspects of life. Accordingly, scholars who study groups can be found across a wide array of disciplines (e.g., anthropology, communication, education, history, information systems, nursing, organizational behavior, philosophy, psychology, political science, public health, sociology). The Interdisciplinary Network for Group Research (INGRoup) was created to provide a context for scholars to:
• Promote communication about group research across fields and nations
• Advance understanding about group dynamics through research
• Advance theory and methods for understanding groups
• Promote interdisciplinary research
The seventh annual INGRoup conference will be held so scholars across disciplines can come together, share information, and learn from one another. The conference program will include paper and symposia sessions, a keynote address, and a business meeting open to all members so the future of INGRoup can be collectively planned and shaped.
Types of Submissions
An online system is available at http://www.ingroup.net/ until January 31, 2012. All submissions should be accompanied by a 50-word abstract for inclusion in the conference program. Provide full name, position, institution, discipline, and contact information for all presenters. Submissions that include participants from a variety of disciplinary traditions are highly encouraged. We accept the types of submissions listed below.
Papers
• Extended abstract. Submit a 900-to 1,500-word extended abstract for papers that (a) present original research or (b) develop, review, or critique group theory or group methods. Extended abstracts for empirical papers should include the following: title, keywords, purpose, methodology, results (preliminary if in early stages), conclusions, and key references. Extended abstracts for theories, reviews, or critiques should include the following: title, keywords, purpose, scope of theory/critique/review, conclusions, and key references. All submissions should be accompanied by a 50-word abstract for inclusion in the conference program. We also ask submitters to provide full name, position, institution, discipline, and contact information for all authors. During the submission process, you will be asked to indicate your preference (not guaranteed) of presenting your paper as an oral presentation or in an interactive poster session. Completed papers are expected at the conference.
• Complete papers. A complete paper should (a) present original research or (b) develop, review, or critique group theory or group methods. Complete papers can be up to 35 pages, inclusive. Complete papers should include the following: title, keywords, purpose, methodology, results, conclusions, and references. Complete papers for theories, reviews, or critiques should include the following: title, keywords, purpose, scope of theory/critique/review, conclusions, and references. All submissions should be accompanied by a 50-word abstract for inclusion in the conference program. We also ask submitters to provide full name, position, institution, discipline, and contact information for all authors.
Symposia
For symposia, submit a 900- to 1,500-word proposal describing the focal issue, participants’ qualifications and expected contributions, and proof of commitment from all participants that they will register for and attend the conference.
Submission Procedures
Submit completed papers, extended abstracts for papers, and proposals for symposia by January 31, 2012, via www.ingroup.net Submissions will be reviewed by the program committee. The program chair will notify the submitter of acceptance by late March. The submitter is responsible for notifying coauthors or other session participants. Best Paper, based on full paper submissions, and Best Poster awards will be presented at the conference. All session participants are expected to register for and attend the conference; all accepted papers must be presented by one of the authors.
Local Arrangements
The 2012 conference will be held at the Doubletree Hotel Chicago – Magnificent Mile. A block of rooms has been reserved for a reduced rate ($159.00 for single or double; $169 for triple; $179 for quad). Room reservations can be made by calling (312) 787-6100. To receive the group discounted rate, you must mention “INGRoup Conference.” The conference fee ($235 for students; $350 for post docs/faculty/professionals) will include conference program, a welcome dinner reception on the evening of July 12, continental breakfasts, lunches and break refreshments on July 13 and July 14, reception on July 13, and a closing gala on the evening of July 14 at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
