Dear Colleagues,

Toni Schamder and I would like to bring your attention to a new edited book on stereotype threat, called Stereotype Threat: Theory, Process, & Application published by Oxford University Press. Surprisingly, this is the first edited volume devoted to the topic, and it offers 19 short and well-written chapters that cover the full breadth of the field. Contributors include Claude Steele, Joshua Aronson, Steven Spencer, Geoff Cohen, Wendy Berry Mendes, Jennifer Richeson, Paul Sackett, and many others. We have also been fortunate to have received some kind advanced reviews of the book, a couple of which we list below:

“Not just excellent, but the only edited volume on stereotype threat to date, this Who's Who of first and next generation researchers demonstrates the reach of the insidious, discomfiting phenomenon of stereotype threat, its many mechanisms, and fortunately, its many potential cures. International in scope and intergroup in focus, academic risk due to ambient stereotypes is the educational problem of the 21st century.”
- Susan T. Fiske, Eugene Higgins Professor of Psychology, Princeton University, and author of Envy Up, Scorn Down

“This is a terrific book on one of the most dynamic and important theories in contemporary psychology. The contributors are major researchers on stereotype threat and provide state-of-the-art syntheses of work in this area. I highly recommend it.”
- Brenda Major, Professor, Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, University of California, Santa Barbara

If anyone is interested in ordering an advanced copy of the book, Oxford University Press is offering a promotion of a 20% discount if you use the promo code 30281. You can order the book by phone (800-451-7556) or online (www.oup.com/us).

Feel free to email one of us if you want more details.

Sincerely,
Michael Inzlicht and Toni Schmader
