Sent to listserv of: SPSP, SESP, SPSSI
Date posted: June 10th, 2011

Dear SPSP Members, Affiliates, Students, and Others:

The portal for submitting to the annual meeting of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) is now open. The 2012 meeting will take place in beautiful San Diego, CA, on January 26-28. The portal address is:

http://www.spspmeeting.org/

and the submission deadline is July 15, 2011 (open until the last time zone on earth). Registration for the conference will open in mid-September 2011.

**Submission information

Scholars can be first author (which means being the presenter) on only one submission – either a symposium submission or poster, but not both. It is incumbent on symposia organizers to verify that speakers in their symposia have not submitted their names as speakers in other symposia or as poster presenters. Failing to do so may result in a symposia being rejected. There is no switching which persons fill speaker roles after submission.

Symposia submissions: Each presentation within the symposium will be described by an abstract of a maximum of 150 words. Symposium chairs also will submit two abstracts, a 150-word maximum summary that describes the symposium theme (for evaluation purposes) and a 50-word maximum summary that describes the symposium theme (to be printed in the program). Symposia can have 3 or 4 presentations, but no discussants.

Poster submission will include two abstracts, one with a 150-word maximum (for evaluation purposes) and a second 50-word maximum abstract (to be printed in the program).

**Attention Young Scientists

This year's conference will again feature a data blitz session, in which 12 young scientists will present their work in rapid-pace form (under 5 minutes). This opportunity is available to advanced PHD students and postdocs. If in **January 2012 you will be in the 4th+ year of a PHD program or hold a postdoctoral position** and you would like your work considered for the data blitz session, please send your talk title, author names, author affiliations, and two abstracts -- one 50-word (for printing in the program) and one 150-word (for evaluation purposes) -- to Andrew Elliot (andye@psych.rochester.edu), with a cc copy to Wendy Mendes (wendy.mendes@ucsf.edu), and with the subject title, "Data Blitz Submission." Data blitz submissions, if accepted, cannot be presented in a symposium or poster presentation; see the "data blitz" tab on spspmeeting.org for full information. A committee of four will judge the submissions. We expect to make decisions in early September.

**General Information

- Both poster and symposia presentations must list a title and author affiliations.
- Data must be collected prior to submission. Submissions that do not meet this requirement will not be accepted.
- Abstracts must contain the specific goals of the study, methods used, summary of the results, and conclusions.
- Submissions will be reviewed with regard to: scholarly/theoretical merit, soundness of methodology, relevance to social and personality psychology, clarity of presentation, significance, and originality. Final selection among submissions deemed meritorious will be made with an eye toward achieving a balanced and broadly representative program.

**Attention Non-Native English Speakers

We strongly recommend having your submissions read and edited by a native English speaker before submitting to ensure the readability and comprehension of your proposal. Failure to do so is associated with an increase in submissions being rejected from the conference. Also, it is necessary that your submission is clear about whether the data have been already collected.

Looking forward to seeing you in San Diego, January 2012!
