Colloquium on “The Neuroscience of Prejudice”

On 6/7 July 2011, The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), in close collaboration with the Social and Organizational Psychology Department at Leiden University, organizes the colloquium: “The Nature of Prejudice: A Neuroscience Perspective” at the Trippenhuis in Amsterdam. The colloquium covers research on a broad range of topics related to prejudice and inter-group relations (categorization, prejudice and control, inter-group interactions, responses to discrimination, improving inter-group relations) using a broad range of psychophysiological and neuroscience measures (neuroendocrine measures, cardiovascular measures, EEG, ERP, fMRI). Featured speakers in the colloquium are David Amodio, Bruce Bartholow, Jim Blascovich, Belle Derks, Carsten de Dreu, Naomi Ellemers, Susan Fiske, Tiffany Ito, Brenda Major, Wendy Berry Mendes, Rudy Mendoza-Denton, Jennifer Richeson, Daan Scheepers, and Michael Zarate.

***We invite applications for participation in the colloquium now!***

We invite researchers in the area of social neuroscience and/or prejudice to indicate their interest in participating in this event by sending an e-mail to Martine Wagenaar (martine.wagenaar@bureau.knaw.nl), before the 1st of March.

In addition to plenary sessions with oral presentations by our invited speakers we’ve organized a poster session. If you would like to make use of this opportunity, please add an abstract for a poster presentation to your email. As we have only limited spaces available in the colloquium, there might be a possibility that we can only invite a selection of the applicants and/or accept only a selection of the poster submissions. We will communicate the decisions regarding this before the end of March.

The colloquium will be held in the “Trippenhuis” in the old historic centre of Amsterdam. A fee of 150 Euro will be charged for participation in the colloquium (lunches, drinks, and dinner included).

The organizing committee (Naomi Ellemers, Belle Derks & Daan Scheepers)
