 Postdoctoral Position and Research Opportunities
Posted by: Afzal Upal
Title/Position: Leader Influence and Effects Research Group
School/Organization: Defence R&D Canada-Toronto
Sent to listserv of: SPSP, SPSSI

The Influence and Effects Research Group at Defence R&D Canada-Toronto is team of research psychologists working on projects related to social influence and intergroup dynamics. We are currently looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join us to work on an exciting new project on human terrain modeling. The project starts from April 1, 2011 and is slated to run till March 31, 2014. The research will be focused on studying inter-group perceptions, i.e., what people of one group think about other in-group members and out-group members (e.g., Canadian perceptions of other Canadians and Americans), investigating systematic techniques for elicitation of such perceptions from groups of people, investigating cognitive models of how narratives involving in- and out-group members affect such perceptions, and how intergroup perceptions change over time. An ideal candidate would be someone with graduate level training in social psychology or cognitive anthropology, familiar with qualitative techniques, and with some experience of working in the field collecting ethnographic data. I am only allowed to hire a Canadian citizen and only for the duration of the project (although there may be opportunities for further work and a permanent position may open up in the future). The position would require full time presence in suburban Toronto area. Please feel free to forward it to anyone you think may be interested.

The position is funded by DRDC but recruited through NSERC. More information about the application process is available at:

More information about the human terrain modeling project is available at:

DRDC is also soliciting input from all social psychologists interested in working on the project as contractors (these do not have to be Canadians or even North Americans).

Should you require any further information, please feel free to get in touch with me.

Thanks,
Afzal
