Second Conference on Social Psychology in Ireland, 28-29 April 2011:
A Two-Way Street: Social Issues and Social Psychological Research
The Department of Psychology and the Centre for Social Issues Research at the University of Limerick are organizing the second Conference on Social Psychology in Ireland (C-SPI):
“A Two-Way Street: Social Issues & Social Psychological Research”, aiming to:
• provide a forum for applied social psychological researchers to present their contribution to relevant social issues, and critically assess the relevance of social psychological research for social issues;
• establish links and facilitate dialogue between psychologists and practitioners in community and governmental organizations, concerning social problems central to their activity;
• bring together junior and senior researchers from various branches of applied psychology, and various methodological traditions (qualitative and quantitative) and engage in theoretical and empirical discussions on relevant social issues;
• engage and provide a forum for representatives of public organizations to present their activities and involvement with these issues, in order to identify key areas where social psychological research could inform practice.
We invite submissions for presentations, posters or symposia with a focus on:
• Immigrant & Indigenous Minorities
• Political Identities, Conflicts and Conformity
• Community Challenges
• Social Factors and Health.
For each section, we plan a keynote lecture, a series of presentations and posters, a session where practitioners or representatives from community or governmental organizations present their activities, and a round-table discussion including social science and field experts discussing relevant social issues.

• Professor Evanthia Lyons, Centre for Research in Political Psychology (CResPP), Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland
• Professor Catherine Campbell, Institute of Social Psychology, Health, Community & Development at London School of Economics, U.K.
• Professor Paschal Sheerhan, Department of Psychology, Emotion Regulation of Others and Self, University of Sheffield, UK.

We welcome submissions from different cultural contexts and a range of methodological traditions. Submissions should include: a title, author(s) and affiliations, an abstract (max 250 words), and an indication of the preferred section of the conference Please email your submission to: C.SPI.Limerick@ul.ie
Deadline for submissions is 30th of January 2011; Notification of acceptance: 27th of February 2011.
