Greetings, friends and colleagues.

I'd like to call everyone’s attention to THE SCIENTIST AND THE HUMANIST: A FESTSCHRIFT IN HONOR OF ELLIOT ARONSON, edited by Carol Tavris, Josh Aronson, and me (Psychology Press). Many festschrift books are uneven collections of papers, uninteresting except to a small circle of scholars in the specific area, but this book is a remarkable exception, given the honoree's many contributions to writing, teaching, and basic and applied research in social psychology. There's something in here for everyone, and the authors have a terrific story to tell about social psychology—and about the lasting influence that Elliot has had on the field and on their own lives and work. The book is especially valuable for students for its behind-the-scenes revelations, hands-on advice, and accessible and lively writing (fitting for any tribute to Elliot, of course).

Each chapter offers a state-of-the-specialty review of its topic, including dissonance theory, the past and future of high-impact experiments, and applied research on energy policy, education, the legal system, prejudice and conflict. Finally, chapters on two of Elliot’s other great passions, teaching and writing, will be invaluable to all young social psychologists. And no surprise, Elliot gets the final word.

Festschrift books are always costly, but you can get this one for 40% off if you are a member of APS. To order and to take advantage of the discount, simply go to: http://www.psychologicalscience.org/books.
