Description of the position

The Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, seeks to appoint a post-doc in the area of Social Psychology. This three-year position (75% research, 25% teaching) provides the opportunity to develop both independent and collaborative research at the Department of Social Psychology within a stimulating research environment. The department provides excellent research facilities and technical support.

Position requirements

The position is open to candidates with a (completed or soon to be completed) PhD in the field of Social Psychology (or closely related disciplines) who are passionate about social-psychological theorizing and research. The ideal candidate has experience in publishing in peer-reviewed journals and experience with teaching.

Conditions of employment

The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience between a minimum of € 3195,- up to a maximum of € 4374,- (scale 11) gross per month for a full-time position. The position is for a fixed period of three years.

The interviews will take place in February 2010.

Organisation

University of Groningen founded in 1614. One of the best universities in Europe and the world. A wide variety of disciplines. Internationally oriented. Rooted in the North of The Netherlands. Socially active. Our researchers and lecturers are inspired academics. Ambitious students. We respect the differences in talent, ambitions and performance of the 25,000 students and members of staff.

The Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences is home to the Department of Social Psychology. We offer a post-doctoral position at the Department of Social Psychology in the broader research program "Interpersonal Behavior" which encompasses social, organizational and personality psychology. The program is embedded, at the national level, in the research school Kurt Lewin.

The general aim of the research program is to integrate basic and applied research. This implies an emphasis on experimental paradigms with considerable ecological validity, and on applied research that has the potential to contribute to theory development. The philosophy is that basic research needs have relevance for phenomena in society, and that applied research needs to be theoretically grounded.
