UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN COLLEGES
Assistant Professor of Psychology
University of Wisconsin--Marinette

Position
The Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a position in psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning at $43,000, contingent upon budget approval. The University of Wisconsin Colleges (http://www.uwc.edu/) is comprised of 13 freshman-sophomore campuses, dispersed geographically across the state, providing a 2-year associate’s degree curriculum for transfer within the UW system. As one the UWC campuses, the University of Wisconsin-Marinette (www.marinette.uwc.edu) provides freshmen and sophomores with a strong liberal arts general education curriculum and hosts several UW baccalaureate degree-completion programs via distance education. Each semester its beautifully wooded, bayside campus (about 1 hour north of Green Bay, Wisconsin) welcomes about 500 students from Northeastern Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and around the world (boasting the largest percentage of international students in the University of Wisconsin system). It also provides the surrounding communities with continuing education, theatre, athletics, and cultural programming. Upon completion of their associate’s degrees, most UW-Marinette graduates transfer to UW-Green Bay, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Madison or another baccalaureate degree-granting institution to complete their university educations.

Qualifications
Qualifications include a doctorate in psychology from an accredited institution, earned or anticipated prior to the beginning date of the appointment. The applicant’s area of concentration in psychology is open, with preference for an individual who can teach Introductory Psychology as well as Child Development. Given the individual’s area of expertise and campus needs, the individual may choose other courses from among the following: Adult Development, Statistics, Social Psychology, Psychology of Gender, and Psychological Perspectives on Diversity Issues. Teaching experience at the university level is preferred, and the candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and learning. The position also requires interest and/or experience in working with instructional technology and distance education.

Responsibilities
The academic year teaching assignment is 24 credits and includes first and second year undergraduate psychology courses. A typical load includes four three credit course sections, with no more than three course preparations per semester. The position will involve teaching three sections per semester face-to-face on the UW-Marinette Campus. A fourth section each semester will be taught online through UWC-Online. Training in teaching via the internet will be provided. Continuing professional development and institutional and community service is also expected.

Starting Date: August 26, 2009

Salary
Starting salary is $43,000 (9 month academic year) contingent upon budget approval. Summer session may occasionally offer additional opportunities for compensation. An outstanding benefits package is included with the appointment.

Application

Review of applications will begin on December 10, 2008 and will continue until needs of the position are met.

Applications must include letter of interest, current vita, unofficial transcripts, a one-page statement of teaching philosophy, and names and contact information (e-mail and phone addresses, and mailing address) of at least three references. If summaries of student evaluation of teaching are available, they should be included with the application. Final interviews of candidates will include a lecture class presentation to the campus community. Electronic submission of materials is required; send to mntpsy@uwc.edu.

Applications must be accompanied by a statement of whether the applicant wishes to have the application held in confidence or made available to the public upon request. I requested, confidentiality of an applicant can be maintained until an applicant is deemed a finalist in the search.

Employment will require a criminal background check. UW-Marinette is an AA/EO employer and encourages women, members of minority groups, and veterans to apply.
