Dear Colleagues,
I want to draw your attention to the new solicitation in the Research and Evaluation on Education in Science and Engineering (REESE) program within the Directorate of Education and Human Resources.
The REESE program supports basic and applied research and evaluation that enhances science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) teaching and learning. REESE builds an interdisciplinary research portfolio focusing on core scientific questions about learning that have implications for education at all ages and in all settings. REESE also encourages proposals concerning education research methodology and evaluation.
REESE has two topical strands:
1. Frontier Research invites project that seek to transform the STEM education research and policy agenda with groundbreaking theories, findings, and methodological and measurement developments. Proposals are restricted fro these topics: (1) the neural basis for learning mathematics, (2) cognitive processes underlying STEM learning/teaching, (3) measurement, modeling, and methods, and (4) cyber-enabled learning and. teaching.
2. Contextual research projects address central problems in teaching, learning, and evaluation that must be addressed in order for substantial progress to be made in STEM education. The output of these projects should have near-term relatively direct implications for communities of researchers, developers, and analysts who are engaged in producing curricula, improving teacher education, or providing guidance to policymakers.
Letters of intent are due November 5, 2007, to allow NSF to gauge interest in this new solicitation. Full proposal deadline is January 8, 2008.
