Below is the announcement of a faculty position in social/personality psych (+ one in cognitive) at UIC. Many of you may have seen this announcement previously. This listserv message includes the following update. UIC is engaged in a diversity recruitment program that is designed to encourage and assist departments in the hiring of underrepresented faculty. Thanks to this program, we may have greater flexibility in hiring such faculty than the text of the original job ad, below, implies. For example, it is possible that, through this initiative, we may be able to hire at a level somewhat more advanced professionally than the Assistant Professor level stated in the ad.

Faculty Positions at the University of Illinois at Chicago
The Psychology Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for one or more tenure-track, Assistant Professor positions in Social/Personality Psychology or Cognitive Psychology to begin August, 2008, subject to budgetary approval. For the Social/Personality position (Dan Cervone, Search Committee Chair, dcervone@uic.edu), we seek applicants in any area of Social/Personality who can add to the breadth and diversity of our graduate program. Research interests of current Social/Personality faculty include children's eyewitness testimony, allegations of repressed memory, jury decision making, personality coherence, social cognition and affect, models of personality architecture, the dynamics of problem solving and decision making in small groups, cognitive and social psychological models of health and risk-taking behavior, and issues of justice, moral conviction, and political reasoning.
For the Cognitive position (Stellan Ohlsson, Search Committee Chair, stellan@uic.edu), we seek applicants in any area of cognition with a preference for research related to human memory. Current faculty research programs are linked through the theme of exploring complex cognition, which includes learning and conceptual change, problem solving, insight and creativity, text comprehension and memory, metacomprehension, bilingualism, hormonal effects on cognition, individual differences in knowledge and abilities, and assessment, technology and instructional design. A distinct feature of the Cognitive program is that faculty members engage in research that spans basic and applied issues using a wide range of methods.
For both positions, teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses and research supervision. Candidates who can teach graduate statistics are especially welcomed. The Psychology Department has five programs (Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical, Cognitive, Community & Prevention Research, and Social and Personality psychology) and is one of the most productive departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. UIC is a research intensive university and provides a rich environment for interdisciplinary research. Collaborations are maintained with other departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Education, Institute for Health Research and Policy, Center for Cognitive Medicine, Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, and the Learning Sciences Research Institute.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. and demonstrate scholarly productivity and the potential for grant support. Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2007 and continue until the positions are filled.
