Dear Colleagues,

We wanted to inform you of our upcoming workshop on qualitative research, a topic that has become more and more relevant, but one that is not always highlighted in most curricula. We hope that this workshop will be relevant from the perspective of continued education. Below is a brief description of the workshop:

Qualitative and Indigenous Psychology by Miguel Silan | (June 4-6, 2025)

A common sentiment usually heard from people who want to get into qualitative or mixed-methods research is hesitation due to lack of training or otherwise the uncertainty of whether “they’re doing it right”. The workshop is a chance to get into the state-of-the-art qualitative methods, which combine fundamental, advanced, and applied topics to help one launch their next qualitative project.

The workshop will focus on interviews and open-ended questions. Not only how to craft, implement, and analyze them, but also how to theorize qualitatively and how ethical open qualitative research can be done. Importantly, the workshop will go beyond just analyzing “themes” and into more fruitful analyses (e.g., bayesian qualitative thinking; negative case analyses). The workshop will also serve as an introduction to indigenous psychology and cross-indigenous psychology and how it can serve to rethink multi-site/cross-cultural studies.
