Dear Colleagues,
Right Between Your Ears, a documentary that many members of the SPSSI and SESP community helped to complete with a crowdfunding campaign in 2015, will be showing at the APA Convention on Sat 5 August at 2.35pm in Room 201 (event 3318). See the programme details at:

The film explores how people become convinced they are right, even when's they are wrong.
Giving an insight into the growing polarization in society, and into the origins of "post truth" before the term even existed, it draws on a long tradition of research in social psychology and neuroscience, and echoes Leon Festinger's first experiment in cognitive dissonance from 1954. Through the story of a group of people who set a date for the end of the world, Right Between Your Ears explores how people become convinced beyond all doubt, and then have to deal with being wrong. The film also includes interviews with distinguished SPSP members Elliot Aronson and Carol Tavris. Trailer and synopsis can be found on http://www.rightbetween.com.
In the UK, where we are based, we have started using the film at campus and high school screenings, in leadership training and in psychology courses. In all these situations the film has a powerful impact on those who watch it, giving people new tools to self-reflect on their own positions, those of other people, and to think differently about what separates us from people we disagree with on matters close to our heart.
