Dear Colleagues,
We'd like to draw your attention to a pre-conference: "Using Smartphones as Mobile Sensing Devices: A Practical Guide for Psychologists to Current and Potential Capabilities," which will take place at 1-4pm on Thursday, January 26, 2012, in San Diego, CA.
As you may know, smartphones offer psychologists a wealth of ever-growing data collection opportunities. To get a sense of the kind of thing we're talking about, check out this video describing one the apps developed by one of our speakers:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rDFbTF47PA (there are plenty more videos on his website)
Or see the work being done on this open sensing framework:

or this project:

The conference is FREE and intended to inform psychologists of the ways in which mobile phones can be used to study behavior in everyday life. The Focus will be on providing PRACTICAL advice on how to implement smartphone technologies in your research. There will be plenty of time to ask questions. If your pre-conference schedule will allow you to swing by for only some of the talks, by all means do so.
Additional information and registration materials can be found at:

See you in San Diego!
