The School of Science seeks an outstanding individual with the vision, scientific standing, and leadership qualities required to chair the Department of Psychology. We desire candidates with a record of excellence in directing an active and nationally recognized research program, as well as a demonstrated commitment to academic leadership, high-quality teaching, and the ability to work across academic units. Candidates are expected to develop an exciting, dynamic, and strategic vision of the Department's future, compatible with existing strengths and opportunities. Candidates should be eligible for appointment as a full professor and start-up will be provided. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
The Department of Psychology consists of 28 full-time faculty members with interests in subfields such as social, industrial–organizational, clinical psychology, health psychology, and behavioral neuroscience. Our faculty includes award-winning teachers and researchers who are fully committed to discovery, facilitating student learning, and civic engagement, and whose work takes full advantage of collaborative opportunities in other units on campus and beyond.
The department has over 500 undergraduate majors who are highly engaged in their learning through service, practica, internships, and research experiences. More than 60 graduate students are enrolled across 3 graduate degree programs: Clinical Psychology (MS and PhD), Psychobiology of Addictions (PhD), and Industrial/Organizational Psychology (MS). The Clinical Psychology Program offers specialized training in Health Psychology and Psychiatric Rehabilitation, while training in the Psychobiology of Addictions focuses on the actions and effects of alcohol and drugs of abuse on brain function and brain development, as well as on brain mechanisms of addictive behavior.
The Department occupies modern space on the attractive, urban IUPUI campus located in downtown Indianapolis. IUPUI is committed to the development of a multicultural environment. We seek greater diversity in our faculty and staff to broaden our academic experience and to reflect the diversity within our learner community. We value the input of multiple viewpoints and perspectives across the university; our goal is to create an academic community that is rich with cultural, social and intellectual diversity. The campus will break ground this fall for a new building that will permit the expansion of the School of Science faculty and provide additional space for research and teaching. IUPUI has a student population in excess of 30,500, 15.6% of whom are classified as an ethnic minority and 4.5% of whom are international students. The campus attracts more external research funding than any other in the state of Indiana. IUPUI is the dedicated health and life sciences campus of Indiana University and is home to professional schools including the IU School of Medicine. Indianapolis is the country’s 13th largest city, large enough to play host to a wide range of major sporting and cultural events and small enough to personify small-town charm, with flavorful cultural districts, a strong sense of community and a low cost of living.
The initial appointment date is negotiable but could be as early as January 1, 2012.
