With the New Year approaching, I am taking this opportunity to extend an invitation to our colleagues to consider a membership in the International Society For Justice Research (ISJR). The ISJR is an international, multidisciplinary society concerned with questions about justice in interpersonal relations, within and between communities, social groups, organizations, and states. The Society, whose current membership includes over 130 members from over 20 countries, was formed with the objectives of providing biennial scientific meetings and further opportunities for the exchange of scientific information; fostering productive discussions of new ideas, research, and theories; and encouraging international and interdisciplinary cooperation.
In addition to the rich opportunities for intellectual and social engagement with our network of scientists working on justice-related issues, member benefits include: a subscription to Social Justice Research, the major journal for justice research from various fields of study; a subscription to the ISJR Newsletter, providing a forum for exchanging ideas and information on justice research; and reduced fees for the Biennial Conference of the ISJR.
Social Justice Research is a forum for the publication of original papers that have broad implications for social scientists investigating the origins, structures, and consequences of justice in human affairs. The journal encompasses the justice-related work (using traditional and novel approaches) of all social scientists-psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, economists, policy scientists, political scientists, legal researchers, management scientists, and others.
The 11th International Social Justice Conference was held in Berlin, Germany in 2006, and the 12th will take place August 14-17, 2008, in Adelaide, Australia, with the theme of Justice in a Diverse Society (information about this conference and the call for submissions can be viewed at: http://socsci.flinders.edu.au/isjr/home.php).
Dues are currently fixed at the rate of $75 per year for members who hold permanent positions and $45 for members without permanent positions (e.g., post-doctoral fellows, emeriti professors). Dues include a subscription to Social Justice Research. Students can become Associate Members, for $10 per year without a subscription to Social Justice Research, or $38 per year with a subscription of SJR.
More information about the ISJR can be obtained at our web site:
http://www.isjr.org/
Once there, if you wish to join you can do so by clicking on Members, and then clicking on Become a Member. After registering, you will be directed to a PayPal website in order to make a dues payment.
The Society is eager to see our membership grow and we look forward to your participation.
