The Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, seeks to appoint an outstanding scholar engaged in scientific research on social psychology. The successful candidate will be appointed as full professor and chair of the social psychology group and will contribute to the research program Interpersonal Behavior that is embedded, at the national level, in the research school Kurt Lewin:

The general aim of the research program is to integrate basic and applied research. This implies an emphasis on experimental paradigms with considerable ecological validity, and on applied research that has the potential to contribute to theory development. The philosophy is that basic research needs to have relevance for phenomena in society, and that applied research needs to be directly theoretically relevant (for details, see www.rug.nl/psy/sop). The social psychology group contributes to the one-year Masters Program Social Psychology and its applications, and the two-year Research Master Program Interpersonal Behavior (www.rug.nl/gmw/rema).

JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be expected to:
-- pursue rigorous, innovative research within the research program Interpersonal Behavior;
-- publish in international top journals in the area of social psychology;
-- supervise (under)graduate research in the area of social psychology and its applications;
-- teach (in Dutch and/or English) graduate and undergraduate courses that are part of the Bachelor Program Psychology, the Master Program Social Psychology and its applications, or the Research Master Program Interpersonal Behavior;
-- participates in the Graduate School for Behavioural and Social Sciences;
-- strengthen and maintain (inter)national contacts in the area of social psychology;
-- develop and maintain extramural funding for research;
-- chair the social psychology group and perform administrative duties.

REQUIREMENTS
• PhD in social psychology;
• internationally recognized accomplishments in basic and applied research in a sub-domain in social psychology;
• dedicated to advancing and applying theoretical knowledge about the antecedents and consequences of human social behavior;
• committed to excellence in teaching;
• administrative experience and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels;
• experience with, and ability to generate extramural funding;
• profound knowledge of English;
• readiness to learn Dutch.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The university of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience up to a maximum of € 6,760 gross per month (CAO-NU full professor 2) for a full time position.
