POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT (Revised closing date)

PSYCHOLOGY INSTRUCTOR

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION:

ANTICIPATED DATE OF EMPLOYMENT:

September 19, 2000.

SALARY:

This is a full time, tenure track faculty position. Salary is based on the negotiated salary schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach Psychology classes as assigned which include Psychology of Human Relations and other first and second year courses;

Collaborate with department faculty in reviewing Psychology offerings -- plan and implement necessary curricular changes;

Be actively involved in the department, the division and the college;

Participate in student advising, curriculum development, committee work and other contracted activities;

Communicate with instructors in other campus programs and academic areas to ensure that Psychology classes required by other departments support their curriculum requirements.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Applicants must possess a combination of academic preparation and professional experience that demonstrates the ability to:

Use a variety of strategies and new technologies in teaching;

Communicate effectively in oral and written English;

Work and interact collaboratively with colleagues, staff, students, and administrators of diverse backgrounds;

Contribute to the college's diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Psychology with course work in Human Relations and/or Social Psychology;

Course work in at least five of the following areas: Abnormal Psychology, Personality Theory, Learning, Statistics, Research Methods, Physiological Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Motivation and Emotion, Human Sexuality, Cognitive Psychology;

Strong commitment to shared governance of the college;

Strong commitment to community college education.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Community college or undergraduate teaching experience;

Interest in incorporation of innovative teaching methods;

Flexibility in hours of assignment.
