 Postdoctoral Fellow in Psychological Research
Institution/Organization: Columbia Business School
Job Location: New York, U.S.A.
Job Type: Postdoctoral
Contact Person: Norah Deluhery
Date Posted: February 10th, 2006
Closing Date: March 1st, 2006

The Graduate School of Business at Columbia University anticipates appointing one or two Postdoctoral Fellows in Psychological Research for a period of two years, with a flexible starting date of summer 2006. The Postdoctoral Fellows will administer the Behavioral Research Laboratory, collaborate in research projects of mutual interest with the faculty, and carry a light teaching schedule (most likely in a negotiations course). The position is ideally-suited for someone with a strong background in psychological research methods who seeks exposure to the mix of basic and applied research and the teaching style in professional schools.

At Columbia, we have a growing community of researchers who explore basic and applied problems at the cognitive and social psychological level of analysis. There are lively colloquia in Management and Marketing as well as a university-wide series on decision making. Additionally, there are opportunities to interact with the Psychology Department and several relevant interdisciplinary groups on campus, such as the Center for Decision Sciences and the Social Psychology Network.

We will select an applicant who plans to work collaboratively on research with one or more of the psychologically-oriented faculty members in the Management department (Daniel Ames, Joel Brockner, Frank Flynn, Tory Higgins, Sheena Iyengar, Michael Morris, and Elke Weber). The division’s web page provides information about research interests.

This position is open to candidates who have recently earned the Ph.D. degree in any area of psychology or organizational behavior. Familiarity with methods of experimentation at the social psychological and cognitive level of analysis is important. Experience in conducting computer-based, web-based, and interaction-based experiments is a plus. Familiarity with content analysis and cross-cultural methods would also be useful.

Applicants should mail a cover letter describing their research interests and accomplishments, a C.V. and three letters of recommendation to: Norah Deluhery, Post Doc Search Coordinator, Columbia Business School, 3022 Broadway, Uris Hall, New York, NY, 10027

Email: management-search@gsb.columbia.edu

Applicants should indicate one or two faculty members with whom they would be most interested in working. Michael Morris, who is heading the search, can answer questions by email: mwm82@columbia.edu. We will begin reviewing applications March 1st and continue until the position has been filled.

Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Minorities and women are encouraged to apply.
