Postdoctoral Fellow
Fixed Term – 2 years
Academic Level A

Salary Package: $49,690 - $59,963 plus 17% superannuation

Reference No.: FS3197

The School of Psychology at The Australian National University wishes to appoint a Level A academic (research-only) to contribute to an ARC-funded social psychology project “From the inevitability of prejudice to the origins of social change: The emergence of perceived illegitimacy in intergroup relations”. The project investigates the problem of how the legitimate authority of an institution or society can come to be redefined as illegitimate, provoking defiance and protest, and in particular the implications of this process for prejudice and social change. The problem is approached from an intergroup perspective building on social identity theory and the self-categorization analysis of power. The position will be for two-years fixed term.

The appointee will work under the direction of Professor John C. Turner and Dr Kate Reynolds and will be involved in and expected to take a leading role in all aspects of the research process. He or she will have a good background in experimental and/or survey research methods relevant to the project and will make a significant contribution to the design, execution, analysis and publication of the research. The appointee also will supervise casual research staff.

Applicants should have completed or be in the process of completing a PhD in social psychology or other relevant social science or have an equivalent record of research experience (an applicant with exceptional qualifications may be considered for appointment at Level B).

The position is available immediately but the starting date is negotiable.

Further particulars, including selection criteria, are available from Jenny Sutton (phone: 02 6 125 2796 / e-mail: Jenny.Sutton@anu.edu.au)
