The Psychology Department at Lancaster University seeks to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Social Psychology. Founded in 1972, the department is ranked among the top psychology departments in the UK for its teaching and research. We were awarded a maximum score of 24 points in the most recent Teaching Quality Assessment and achieved a rating of 5(a) in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise.

You should have established a research track with the potential to produce publications and attract research funding that will make a strong submission to the next RAE exercise. In addition, you should be able to contribute to the delivery and development of Social Psychology teaching.

The social psychology group at Lancaster currently comprises four lecturers and a teaching fellow. The interests of the team are broad ranging, but we have particular strengths in the areas of conflict, prejudice and identity. We particularly welcome applications from candidates whose research interests complement those of the current members of the Lancaster social psychology group, or who would be interested in developing research links with other research teams in the department (for further information visit our research site at: http://www.psych.lancs.ac.uk/research/). Evidence of a research funding track record and the potential to lead the development of team’s research profile will be sought for a senior appointment. Candidates should indicate whether they wish their application to be considered at lecturer A/B or Senior lecturer level.

The department is well-resourced and has recently established The Centre for Research in Human Development, which is located in a state-of-the art building that contains an extensive range of laboratory and research facilities. Other research facilities include computer-based laboratories for cognitive research, a specialist movement registration laboratory, and sophisticated digital video recording and editing facilities.

These posts are available from January 2006. Closing date for applications, November 11th 2005 . Informal enquiries can be made to the Head of Department, Professor Tom Ormerod (Tel: 01524 593164, email: t.ormerod@lancaster.ac.uk). General information about the Department is available at http://www.psych.lancs.ac.uk/
