 Two Tenure-Track Positions

Job Location: Montana, U.S.A.
Job Type: Tenure-Track
Contact Person: A. Michael Babcock

MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY: The Psychology Department at Montana State University announces two tenure-track positions to begin August 15, 2006. One position will be filled at the assistant professor or associate professor level, and the other position will be filled at the associate professor or full professor level. A Ph.D. in psychology or closely related field is required by the start date. We expect the successful candidates to conduct research in any non-clinical area of psychological science. For example, we will consider candidates whose primary research is health psychology, behavioral neuroscience, cognitive psychology, social psychology, and other such subfields. Preference will be given to candidates whose research complements and can foster intellectual synergy with current faculty research interests, or whose research actually or potentially spans more than one subfield of psychological science. Preference will also be given to candidates who offer opportunities to further the mentoring of underrepresented students in the sciences (e.g., women, Native Americans).

Faculty responsibilities include maintaining a strong research program that involves mentoring students, actively seeking external funding, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Our faculty typically teach two courses per semester. The department currently has seven tenure-track faculty lines and an additional four full-time adjunct faculty lines. Current tenure-track faculty are research active and have received external support from agencies such as NSF, NIH, and AHA. Current faculty interests are mainly in cognitive psychology, learning, health psychology, social psychology, and behavioral neuroscience. Our most recent faculty members received Ph.D.s from University at Albany-SUNY and Ohio University. The department has a research-oriented M.S. program that funds students who serve in a research apprenticeship role under the supervision of a faculty member. MSU serves about 12,000 students. We are located in Bozeman, a city of more than 30,000 in the northern Rockies, only 90 minutes from Yellowstone Park. Bozeman was recently named second best small college city in the United States and awarded All-America City recognition. For a complete description of MSU, the Psychology Department, and surroundings, browse our website at www.montana.edu/wwwpy.

To apply, send a cover letter indicating specific interest in the position, a curriculum vitae, reprints or preprints of current publications or articles, a statement of research and teaching interests, and contact information for 5 references to Dr. A. Michael Babcock, Search Committee Chair, Department of Psychology, Montana State University, Bozeman MT 59717-3440 (no electronic submissions please). We will begin screening applications on November 1, 2005, and continue until the positions are filled. Montana State University is building a culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from female and minority candidates. ADA/AA/EO/VET PREF.
