Applications are being accepted for an academic year (9-month), tenure-track appointment in adult development, with a lifespan perspective, at the Assistant Professor level with a joint appointment in the Experiment Station. Fiscal year term employment (i.e., 11-month appointment) will be offered and continued based on academic personnel review. Faculty advise and teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates will be expected to teach and develop a research program that focuses on adult development with a lifespan perspective and that is concerned with issues of individual and/or family health and well-being, and engage in AES related research and outreach. More specifically, we are seeking someone who is expected to develop a research program that focuses on one or more areas of adult development, such as biobehavioral health; biological correlates/predictors of emotional and/or cognitive processes; the effects of stress on physical and/or mental health; the effects of interpersonal processes on physical and/or mental health; the relationship between neuroendocrine and behavioral processes; and physical and mental health issues associated with transitions of adulthood (e.g. transition to adulthood, parenthood, or retirement; transitions in close relationships.) Candidates must hold an earned Doctoral or equivalent degree in Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, or related field, and have a record of research in socio-emotional, cognitive, and/or biological development, which emphasizes one or more phases of adulthood. A strong commitment to quality teaching of adult development courses, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is essential.

Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) is responsible for an undergraduate degree program and forms the core faculty for both an M.S. degree program in Child Development and a Ph.D. program in Human Development. Research and teaching interests of HDFS encompass the life cycle from birth to old age. Faculty research includes projects ranging from those focusing primarily on contextual determinants of behavioral development to projects focused upon the organismic substrate of such growth. Faculty of HDFS are engaged in collaborative efforts with faculty from other campus departments such as Anthropology, Psychology, Nutrition, and Psychiatry, and with researchers from other University of California campuses as well as other universities in the United States and abroad.
