Contact Person: Toni Schmader
Date Posted: December 15th, 2004

Applications are being accepted for a NIMH funded project working with Toni Schmader examining situations of stereotype threat as a stress-induced cognitive deficit. The research associate position is funded initially for one year with a possibility of renewal up to three years. The research will employ a combination of social cognitive measures (e.g., measures of working memory capacity) and psychophysiological indices (e.g., measures of cortisol) to assess how the salience of negative social stereotypes acts as a situational stressor that impairs cognitive functioning.

Required: Ph.D. in experimental social psychology or a closely related field of study upon date of hire. Applications are especially encouraged from individuals with training in social psychology who also have an interest or expertise in social cognition and working memory, stress and coping, and/or psychophysiological indices of stress. The successful candidate will direct a series of laboratory-based experiments. Specific duties will include involvement in study design, overseeing data collection, data analysis, and writing reports for publication.

Review of applications will begin February 13th and will continue until the position is filled. Ideally, the position would begin May 16th, 2005. To apply, please complete on-line application for job #31925 at http://www.uacareertrack.com. Be prepared to attach letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and statement of research interests. Also please provide names and contact information for three references on the on-line application. Questions about the position can be directed to Toni Schmader at schmader@u.arizona.edu. Interested applicants who will be attending the SPSP conference in January are encouraged to contact Dr. Schmader to discuss the position at the conference. The University of Arizona is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, M/W/D/V.
