Applications are invited for a full-time research position, available from February 1 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of 3 years, working with Professors Russell Spears and Tony Manstead on an ESRC-funded project investigating the emotional basis of Welsh identity in relation to social action and political participation. The project forms part of the ESRC’s Identities and Social Action Research Programme. The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting a series of studies. The successful candidate will ideally have, or be close to achieving, a PhD in psychology, preferably social psychology. Knowledge of and interest in intergroup relations, social identity, and emotion, would be an advantage, as would a good command of multivariate statistical methods. The nature of the research means that a knowledge of the Welsh language would also be an advantage but this is NOT required.
Starting salary £19,460 rising to £29,128 per annum. Due to external funding it is not expected to appoint above £21,640.
