Risk Analysis, Perception, and Communication. The Environmental Initiative (EI) at Lehigh University seeks an Assistant Professor (or Associate in exceptional cases) for a tenure track position in environmental risk analysis, perception, and communication, beginning fall semester 2005. Possible research specialties include decision processes, rationality and adjustment to environmental change/degradation, risk identification and response, understanding attitudes and perceptions toward risks and benefits, or theories and mechanisms for communicating about environmental risk to a broad range of communities, policy makers, industries, and the general public.

The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment between EI and the department most closely matching his/her teaching and research interests. This appointment is one of a number of new faculty appointments being made in science, engineering, social science, and humanities departments across the University in support of a multidisciplinary initiative focusing on the environment. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to help further develop EI’s new BA in Environmental Studies and its planned MA in Environmental Policy as well as participate in existing departmental undergraduate and graduate programs. We seek applicants whose research records and skills promise rich and productive scholarly careers and excellence in teaching. The typical course load is two courses per semester. Opportunities for team teaching and multidisciplinary research will be available. Applicants must hold the Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
