Applications are invited from clinical psychologists for the confirmation path position of Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor of Psychological Medicine at the Dunedin School of Medicine.

This exciting new post has been established to provide leadership in the Department, consolidate the Department’s excellence in its broad teaching responsibilities, help develop an innovative new paper for preclinical students and to make increased use of considerable existing resources for research that are available to the Department.

It is expected that the appointee will also have clinical responsibilities with the Otago District Health Board (ODHB) as a joint clinical appointment up to half-time. The details of the clinical work will be negotiated between the person applying, the Dunedin School of Medicine, and the ODHB.

To fulfil the role, any applicant must be qualified as a clinical psychologist, hold a doctoral level research degree and be eligible for registration with the Psychologists Board of New Zealand.

The Dunedin School of Medicine has an outstanding reputation in many areas of medical and scientific research. The Department of Psychological Medicine has contributed research on psychiatric epidemiology, mood disorders, issues of women’s mental health, neuropsychology, psycho-oncology, communication skills in medicine and other aspects of behavioural medicine and medical education.

There are currently eleven academic staff and three general staff in the Department, covering both Psychiatry and Behavioural Science. The Department teaches both undergraduates and postgraduates, and has several postgraduate research students.

Dunedin is a lovely, friendly city and University town, lying in an area of outstanding natural beauty. There is easy access to a hinterland with a large range of sporting and outdoor activities. This is an exceptional academic and lifestyle opportunity in a safe environment.
