The laboratory’s research examines how psychosocial characteristics “get inside the body” to influence the development and progression of medical illnesses. It is run jointly by Dr. Edith Chen and Dr. Gregory Miller. Currently funded projects focus on social status, immune regulation, and disease course in children with asthma; behavioral and biological adaptation over the course of long-term chronic stressors; and depression, inflammation, and early markers of cardiac risk. The trainee will have the chance to develop expertise in the conceptualization and measurement of psychosocial (life stress, cognitive appraisal, social status) and biological (respiratory function, immune regulation, gene expression) processes.
