The Department of Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in social psychology. We are looking for a person capable of teaching both graduate and undergraduate level courses who is actively engaged in research with promise of continued research productivity. We seek to hire an individual whose strengths complement the distinctive character of our program. Our program brings together laboratory and field methods to focus on social justice issues of theoretical importance within meaningful applied contexts and then take what we learn in applied settings to refine and enrich theories. Current faculty interests include: social identity; social policy; intergroup relations; social comparison; feminist theory and gender issues; applications of social psychological principles to legal and other settings; diversity, prejudice, and discrimination; poverty and economic inequality; sexual aggression and abuse; leadership; and social influence and persuasion. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service. Beginning salary is $46,300 - $51,700, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Prefer Ph.D. in Psychology or related field by July 1, 2004; must be conferred no later than June 30, 2005. Position available July 1, 2004, contingent upon budgetary approval.
