CANADA RESEARCH CHAIR IN SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (TIER II). Applications are invited for a probationary (tenure-track) or tenured appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at The University of Western Ontario, effective July 1, 2004. The Canada Research Chair program has been established by the Government of Canada to foster world-class research excellence. CRC positions are prestigious appointments, which are intended to further strengthen outstanding research programs. Details of the CRC program can be found at http://www.chairs.gc.ca.

The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of research and publication in social psychology and will be expected to maintain an active research program, provide graduate student supervision, and do some undergraduate or graduate teaching. The starting salary will be commensurate with experience. The candidate's research interests should complement existing areas of research strength in the social psychology area at The University of Western Ontario. Current members of the Social Area at Western are Lorne Campbell, Victoria Esses, William Fisher, James Olson, Clive Seligman, and Richard Sorrentino. Several other faculty members in the department have interests related to social psychology, including Natalie Allen, Nicholas Kuiper, Rod Martin, John Meyer, and Sampo Paunonen.

The Psychology Department has approximately 50 faculty members, 20 staff members, and over 100 graduate students enrolled in the Masters and Ph.D. programs. The University of Western Ontario is situated in picturesque London, Ontario, a city of approximately 340,000 along the banks of the Thames River, approximately equidistant from Toronto, Detroit, and Buffalo. This position is subject to budgetary approval and is contingent upon a successful CRC application. Applicants should have fluent writing and verbal communication skills in English.
