The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University (SFU) invites applications for a continuing faculty position at the rank of Lecturer starting as early as November 2022.


Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in Psychology (any APA Division) by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. We are seeking candidates who have a commitment to excellence in teaching courses at the undergraduate level. The ideal applicant will have experience with teaching large classes in Introductory Psychology and Research Methods. Experience teaching upper-division and graduate-level courses is an asset. We especially value prior experience and expertise teaching and mentoring BIPOC and other minoritized students. Applicants should be familiar with delivering blended or online courses, have experience utilizing creative teaching methods and tools, and be knowledgeable about curriculum development and learning outcomes within psychology. They should provide evidence of educational leadership, or the potential for leadership. The ideal candidate will also support and contribute positively to the respectful, inclusive, and collegial culture of the Department of Psychology through open and collaborative engagement with colleagues, staff and students.

Applications must include:

(a) a cover letter, addressed to Dr. Yuthika Girme, Chair, Lecturer Search Committee, Dept. of Psychology, SFU;
(b) a teaching statement and dossier of supporting materials, such as samples of course outlines, lecture materials, and teaching evaluations, as well as evidence of pedagogical approaches to make teaching inclusive;
(c) a one-page diversity and equity statement that identifies the applicant’s contributions or potential contributions to equity, decolonization, and/or anti-racism in institutional or community contexts;
(d) a curriculum vitae (please include a detailed section on previous teaching experience and make note of your citizenship/immigration status);
(e) a list of three referees’ names and contact information (phone and email).

A long-list of candidates will be invited to a 30-minute Zoom interview during which the candidates may be asked to give a short lesson (5-minute) and respond to a few questions. Short-listed candidates will then be contacted for more fulsome interviews. Please do not ask referees to send letters of reference; we will request reference letters be sent to us during the long-list interview stage.
